Successful Launch to OCP Review Process
North Vancouver District’s Official Community Plan (OCP) review process, Identity DNV 2030, kicked off with more than 200 people attending three exciting launch events in June. The new OCP will be created in consultation with the public over the next 18 months as we plan together for the future of our community.
Click here for descriptions of each of the three community launch events held in June and for information about upcoming Identity DNV 2030 events and happenings. Additional information about Identity DNV 2030 and the OCP review process is available at identity.dnv.org, or by calling 604-990-2421 or emailing identity@dnv.org.
Welcoming Olympic Visitors to your Home
As North Vancouver gears up for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, some residents might be contemplating how they can provide accommodations for visitors during the Olympics. If you are thinking of welcoming visitors into your home, please consider the District’s applicable regulations. While the District will not be changing any of its regulations for the Olympics, there are a few ways you can legally provide accommodations.
Click here for a brief guide to providing accommodations to visitors while respecting the District’s zoning bylaw.
Grouse Grind Closed for Repairs
Metro Vancouver closed the Grouse Grind today because the steep mountain trail has become unsafe for hikers and repairs need to be done before it can reopen.
Summertime trail closures are rare, but unusually dry weather in June has resulted in very heavy trail usage. As a consequence, numerous large boulders along the trail route at the upper sections are unstable and could start rolling down the mountain on to hikers.
Metro Vancouver has to undertake rock scaling on Friday. Should the trail be made sufficiently safe, Metro Vancouver hopes to re-open the trail on Saturday, July 4.
Until the trail re-opens, hikers and fitness enthusiasts are not permitted on the Grouse Grind.
Construction Notice
The District has just begun construction on the south side of Main Street between Lynn and Harbour Avenues to accommodate a wider sidewalk and an eastbound bicycle lane. The new bicycle lane is a continuation of the lane from the City of North Vancouver and its implementation should result in safer travel for both cyclists and drivers.
A new wider sidewalk and the installation of ornamental street lighting to improve night-time visibility along the south side of Main Street is also included in the project scope.
Construction within the roadway proper will be limited to the working hours of 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays and is expected to take approximately four to five weeks to complete. Every effort will be made to maintain traffic flow and access to the adjacent businesses during the work in progress. Please follow all signs and flag person directions.
